Project Information
Burntisland was part of Fife Councils Building Fife’s Future Programme. The programme is in two phases with two high schools and one primary in each phase. A replacement Burntisland Primary was part of the second phase of the programme.
The new School is a three-stream primary school designed for 651 pupils (21 classrooms), incorporating an 80/80 nursery (2 rooms). The replacement Primary School provides the following benefits:
- Building that is fit for purpose
- All school accommodation and nursery under one roof
- Facility that is ready to deliver the Curriculum for Excellence
- Facility that can cope with the projected demand for pupil places
- Facility built with flexibility in mind in order to cope with changes in roll
- Ample on site external play areas
- Reduction in traffic congestion due to on-site parking
- Reduced year on year maintenance costs
- Reduced annual running costs. The East Toll Park site is 2.79 HA in size. It has the benefits of being in a central location with good pedestrian and vehicular linkages.
The project also involves the integration of community facilities; by way of relocation of the existing grass pitch and playground within the overall East Toll Park site. These are located to the east of the park, and are outwith the school’s fenced boundary to ensure maximum community access.
Community Involvement
As well as access to the internal premises for a wide range of activities, the local community benefits from a relocated and improved football pitch and play park.

- 100% demolition and excavation waste was recycledor reused.
